SUBJECT : Print Queue Problems
DATE : 5/24/90
FYI # : 052490sr
OS VERSION : All
REVISION :
SHELL VERSION : All
PROBLEM : 1) Print jobs disappearing from the queue.
2) Print queues themselves disappearing.
SOLUTION : 1) If print jobs are disappearing and not getting printed the
problem is usually faulty printer hardware. The job is sent to the printer
but because of a hardware problem it drops off into nowhere (sometimes
referred to as the "bit bucket"). Check the pinouts to make sure they are
correct. Other things that can cause this problem are sheet feeders, and
hardware switches installed between the printer port and the printer.
This problem happens mostly on serial printers.
2) If the print queue is actually disappearing then see if the customer is
running WordPerfect when it happens. We have had this reported by
WordPerfect users. See if they are capturing from WordPerfect. If so, then
have them print to the LPT port instead and use the CAPTURE command to
control printing to the network.
